Picture

Michael Marx is a master at sculpting metal clay into wearable art forms. He will be teaching two of his PMC classes:

A Beautiful Marriage: Metal Clay and Glass - Bringing together two separate materials into one piece of art
                                                                                      AND
Bugging Out - Insects, Arachnids and Bugs in Metal Clay

What you will learn In these classes we will design, create, fire and finish multiple pieces of wearable sculpture that combine the strength of metal clay with the bold colors of glass using hollow-form, sculpting, coil rolling and texture layering techniques. We will use multiple methods to securely marry the clay and glass which Michael developed after being frustrated with traditional glass and clay techniques. Starting with a basic understanding of the method, students can push the design possibilities with further embellishment and their own creativity.

All art begins with inspiration. You’ve taken a lot of classes and learned many techniques but may still be struggling to find your unique style in your work.

Or maybe you have a unique idea but don’t know how to make it. This class is specifically designed to help find your voice and develop practices that will become the foundation of your creative process.

This five-day in person jewelry retreat includes short lectures, personalized demos, individual and group discussion, lots of class studio time, and review and critique for each participant and as a group at the end of the workshop. You will be encouraged to design and create a personally unique piece of jewelry.

What you will Learn How to access your creativity and develop skills that will form the foundation of your artistic practice. Each student will be encouraged to design a piece that is challenging for them. Demos will be specifically designed to fit the needs of each student’s design. Fabrication instruction and demos will include selection of material, character of the stones, stone setting approaches, metal shaping techniques (shell-forming, reticulation, fold forming, hollow forms and more), texture techniques, soldering approaches, lapidary, finishing, patination and bench tips.
A new holistic approach to your personal creativity!

Basic soldering skills required. Students have Fabrication I skill level but this is not required.

Joanna Gollberg -  Making Rings with Gemstones

Picture

What you will learn This 5 day workshop covers making all kinds of rings embellished with stones. Students will learn to form simple bands to complex hollow forms. Complex soldering skills will be thoroughly addressed through the forming of the rings in a variety of structures and addition of decorative elements such as filigree, kinetic parts, unconventional riveting, and advanced stone setting.

The stone setting will include making and using bezels, prong settings, tabs, and flush settings (for stones under 3mm). We will learn how to secure cabochons, faceted stones of all shapes, and rough stones or found objects, while accenting these with flush-set stones in a variety of material forms. These rings will either be “artsy” in nature or professionally classic in style. We will have many group demos as well as one-on-one instruction to cover each student’s particular needs. Soldering skills required.
