This three session virtual class inspires you to work with gold and not break the bank! Bi-metal is a laminate of 18KT or 22KT gold on top of sterling silver. It gives the appearance of a high carat gold sheet without the cost.Bi-metal sheet is an ideal product for jewelers who require karat gold accents. It consists of a layer of 18 or 22 karat gold bonded to a layer of sterling silver. The karat gold layer can be engraved, gouged, roll printed, or removed by any method to expose the sterling silver layer underneath, to create interesting surface embellishments and patterns. It can be formed, soldered to other metals and have Keum-boo applied to it. A versatile and wonderful way of adding gold to your work without incurring the cost of a solid gold sheet. The goal of this class is to use 18KT bi-metal in a variety of ways to create new work with bits of gold!!This three-week virtual class will cover the basics of working with bimetal, designing, texturing, soldering to other metals, forming and more!

About Paulette
I am originally from rural upstate New York. My great grandfather was a painter trained in the Hudson River School, who supported a family of ten from his artwork. Growing up, I was surrounded by his paintings and the landscape that had inspired him. As a child, I spent many hours outdoors rambling through fields and woods, building tree forts and drawing pictures. My family was not surprised when I was inclined toward art and, because of my great grandfather’s example, very supportive. The importance of the natural world has persisted in the narrative of my work.
I also have a love for working with tools influenced by my Dad, who was mechanic. The childhood activities of drawing and fixing things in the garage formed an interest and passion for metalsmithing and jewelry making.
Paulette Werger is studio jeweler and educator living in New Hampshire.
She received her B.S. in Painting and Sculpture from the College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College, NY, and her M.F.A. in Art Metal from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
