Nature provides an endless reference for imagination and invention. It is the inspiration behind Jayne Redman’s jewelry. The linear quality of stems and the fullness of flower buds generate ideas for both patterns and assembly processes. She integrates mechanics with design, working with multiples of the same shape, and uses tools and jigs she has developed that allow her to form the parts to fit precisely.

About Jayne
Nature provides an endless reference for imagination and invention. The linear quality of stems and the fullness of flower buds inspire my jewelry. I enjoy integrating mechanics with design, allowing each piece to function in a visually intriguing way. I work with multiples of the same shape engineering them to fit precisely giving an abstract impression of their botanical origin. Many years of metalsmithing have taught me the power of simplicity. My forms begin as flat metal shapes and arrive as small sculptures. Their complexity is in their conception as curving planes of origami.
Jayne Redman earned her B.F.A. in Jewelry and Silversmithing from Maine College of Art in 1977. Upon graduation she developed and taught the first Continuing
Studies program in Jewelry and Metals for the college. In 1979 she became a design and production assistant for a New York jewelry designer in the fashion
industry. She started her own company, Jayne Redman Jewelry, in 1982 and exhibited her work nationally at fine craft shows and galleries.
Jayne began designing her award winning Floraforms® Collection in 1995 which resulted in creating unique tools and jigs to precisely duplicate the sculptural
metal and wire shapes of her jewelry. This necessitated having tools made for her assistants and then for her students as she began teaching workshops in her methods.
Jayne now teaches her innovative engineering and production techniques at jewelry schools and organizations around the country and at her studio in Southern Maine. She continues to add to her line of jewelry tools which is sold by Rio Grande Jewelry Supply, Micro-Tools, and on her website
