In this live demonstration, Maestro Fabrizo Acquafresca reveals the traditional Italian techniques of Chasing and Repousse on fine silver through the creation of “The Sunflower”.  More than a simple motif, the sunflower becomes a symbol of creativity and transformation – showing how one subject can inspire an entire parure: earring, pendant or bracelet.

Participants will witness the delicate steps of sculpting light on metal - from the first hammer strikes to the fine detailing - discovering how this centuries - old Florentine tradition continues to bloom today.

About Fabrizio

Descended from a Florentine lineage of metal artisans dating back to the 17th century, Fabrizio Acquafresca represents the 11th generation of a family devoted to the art of Chasing and Repoussé.

A true master of this ancient Italian technique, he is dedicated to sharing it with the world, keeping alive one of the last authentic traditions of hand-crafted metal art.

His creations including commissions for the Vatican, the Palio di Siena, and Formula 1 reflect the harmony of mathematics and emotion that defines his style.

Together with his wife, Andrea Castillo, designer and goldsmith, he leads Jewel Lab, where tradition and contemporary design unite to celebrate beauty crafted by hand.

Instructor: Robert Lopez

This demonstration explores the pros and cons of working with Argentium silver, focusing on its remarkable fusing capabilities. While creating a cuff bracelet, I’ll show how to combine multiple components without solder, avoiding overflow issues, and build complex designs by fusing dozens or even hundreds of small pieces in one step. I’ll also touch on some of the techniques I use to create the unique components featured in the cuff most of which will be pre-made due to time constraints. The session highlights Argentiums resistance to firescale, and reticulation, properties that enhance surface quality during high-temperature work. Polishing and texturing techniques will also be discussed to showcase Argentium’s brilliant finish.

Whether you’re new to this alloy or looking to deepen your understanding you’ll leave informed not confused about the beauty

and benefits of fusing Argentium silver.

About Robert

I am a self-taught metalsmith based in Yucaipa, California, creating one-of-a-kind, handcrafted jewelry. Each piece is designed with raw, organic forms, bold textures, and layered details, giving it a distinctive, timeless quality. I work with a variety of materials including Argentium silver, gold, titanium, copper, gemstones, pearls, wood, and other unique elements, shaping them by hand through cutting, sawing, hammering, grinding and sometimes starting from raw ingots I pour myself.

My journey began with wire-wrapping stones and evolved into full metalsmithing through self-directed learning, experimentation, and a relentless passion for transforming materials. I now teach workshops locally and nationally, sharing my skills with students while continuing to explore new techniques and designs. I strive to create jewelry that stands out, lasts for generations, and reflects the artistry and dedication poured into every piece.
