Class Description

In this 4-day in person workshop I will demonstrate how to use 3 different methods to join sterling silver components in layers to create 3- dimensional jewelry. I will demonstrate how to plan and develop a design for each method, how to create layers of pierced silver (other metals can be used as well) that work together on different levels, and how to assemble/join the 2 or 3-layered constructions using the following three methods:

Method #1: Cold connecting - riveting 2 or more layers of metal sheet together using spacers (crimp beads) and pins or wire to create distance between the layers - rivet heads can become design elements themselves.

Method #2: Soldering a rectangular wire frame between the layers of sheet. The frame can act as both a design element and a way to create space and dimension between the layers while supporting them.

Method #3: Soldering spacers made from square wire between the layers that are either hidden between the layers or can extend out from between them to become part of a design or attach to other parts such as design elements or stone settings.
